During World War II, the seemingly innocent TV chef, Julia Child, worked with the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), a precursor to the CIA, as a research assistant. Her tasks included working with sharks to develop a repellent that would prevent them from detonating naval mines. She also worked on a project involving explosive devices disguised as food to be used against the Nazis. Child’s intelligence and resourcefulness in these unconventional roles helped her make a significant contribution to the war effort.
