On June 30, 1971, three Soviet cosmonauts, Georgi Dobrovolski, Viktor Patsayev, and Vladislav Volkov, tragically lost their lives during the Soyuz 11 mission to the Salyut 1 space station. A cabin vent valve unexpectedly opened during reentry, causing a rapid loss of pressure and resulting in the deaths of the three men. This remains the only known incident of humans dying in outer space, highlighting the extreme dangers and risks associated with space exploration. The bravery and sacrifice of these three men will always be remembered in the history of space exploration.
