Types of Back Pain, Causes, and When to Worry
There are several types of back pain, including acute, chronic, and neuropathic pain. Acute back pain typically lasts for a few days to a few weeks and is usually caused by a sudden injury or strain. Chronic back pain, on the other hand, lasts for more than three months and can be the result of conditions such as arthritis or disc degeneration. Neuropathic pain is caused by damage or dysfunction in the nervous system and can result in shooting or burning sensations. It is important to seek medical attention if you experience back pain that is accompanied by fever, unexplained weight loss, numbness or weakness in the legs, or difficulty controlling your bladder or bowels.
