Pulmonary Edema vs. Pneumonia

Pulmonary edema and pneumonia are both respiratory conditions that can cause difficulty breathing and chest pain, but they are caused by different underlying factors. Pulmonary edema occurs when excess fluid builds up in the lungs, often as a result of heart failure or kidney disease. This fluid can make it difficult for oxygen to pass into the bloodstream, leading to symptoms such as shortness of breath and coughing. Pneumonia, on the other hand, is an infection of the lungs caused by bacteria, viruses, or fungi. Symptoms of pneumonia include fever, chills, and productive cough. While both conditions can be serious and require medical attention, they are treated differently based on their cause.
