What is Silicosis? (EXPLAINED)
Silicosis is a lung disease caused by inhaling silica dust, typically from working in occupations such as mining, construction, or manufacturing. When silica particles are inhaled, they can cause inflammation and scarring in the lungs, leading to symptoms such as coughing, shortness of breath, and chest pain. Over time, silicosis can progress to a more severe form known as progressive massive fibrosis, which can be disabling and even life-threatening. There is no cure for silicosis, but it can be prevented by using proper respiratory protection and workplace safety measures to limit exposure to silica dust.
