During World War II, a bored pilot discovered a unique way to pass the time and satisfy his sweet tooth by using his fighter jet to make ice cream. He realized that the extreme temperatures at high altitudes could freeze the ingredients for ice cream in a matter of minutes. The pilot would mix together milk, sugar, and vanilla in a canister, then attach it to the outside of his plane before taking off on a mission. As he flew at high speeds and altitudes, the freezing temperatures would quickly turn the mixture into a delicious frozen treat. The pilot and his fellow soldiers were delighted by the unexpected dessert, and it became a popular morale-boosting activity among the squadron.
